And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden... Gen 2:16
With all the excitement of Independence Day, I did a quick study on the use of the word Free in Scripture. It is fascinating that the first occurrence of that term is when God was telling Adam that he was free to eat from any tree in the garden.
Especially when you look at the next verse…
...but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die. Gen 2:17
Is that not the story of humankind? God created us to be free, but then sin entered the picture and it separated us from God. Until Jesus came and reconciled us to the Father. He gave His life to pay our ransom and set us free in Him again.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Gal 5:1
Praise You, Lord.
